The impunity of soldiers who violate human rights is “disappointing”: Human Rights Watch (In Spanish)

The international organization for the defense of human rights, Human Rights Watch (HRW), asserted, during the presentation of Mexico’s fifth periodic report before the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations, that “it is disappointing” that the country “has not taken advantage of this opportunity to recognize and confront the impunity of these violations of human rights committed by members of the military.” [quote may not be exact due to translation]

HRW implored “the government of Mexico recognize that, under the command of Felipe Calderón, there has been only one soldier sentenced  to nine months in prison for having shot and killed a civilian at a military checkpoint.”
