Biden nominates Ken Salazar as ambassador to Mexico

President Biden will nominate former Interior Secretary and former Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar (D) as ambassador to Mexico, the White House announced on Tuesday. 

In addition to his roles in the federal government, Salazar has also been the attorney general of Colorado and was its first Latino elected to statewide office. Among his notable moves at the Interior Department was implementing a 20-year ban on mining uranium from public lands in 2012. 


Mexico chooses academic as ambassador to US

Mexico has chosen a U.S.-based Mexican academic as its new ambassador to Washington to fill a key diplomatic post left vacant for five months. Mexico’s Foreign Relations Department said Tuesday that the new ambassador will be Miguel Basanez, who is currently an adjunct professor at Tufts University’s Fletcher School. He is an expert on opinion polling. The position inMexico’s most important trade and investment partner had been vacant since former Ambassador Eduardo Medina Mora was nominated to Mexico’s Supreme Court in March. Analysts had questioned why Mexico left the post vacant so long. The department said Basanez plans to “promote the empowerment of the Mexican community” in the United States.
