In an interview with the FT, the
46-year-old president and member of the centrist Institutional Revolutionary party (PRI), which ruled Mexico for 71 uninterrupted years, says that the country’s embrace of democracy has reached a new, more productive phase.
“We are seeing a maturing of democracy,” he explains. “We are not afraid of heated debate … but this has not prevented decisions from taking place [or] events that form part of the legal framework from happening.”
