Mexico’s 2012 Presidential Election and the Nation’s Role in the World [video]

On June 18th the Woodrow Wilson Center hosted an event with the three major Mexican presidential candidate’s foreign policy representatives:

Ambassador Rubén Alberto Beltrán Guerrero was, until recently, the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean under President Felipe Calderón.   He is currently Josefina Vázquez Mota’s presidential campaigns Coordinator for International Affairs.   He holds a law degree from the Iberoamericana University. He has been in public service since 1975 and a career member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1981, and served as Consul General of Mexico in New York, Los Angeles, and Phoenix.

Mr. Emilio Lozoya Austin is the international outreach coordinator for former Governor Enrique Peña Nieto’s presidential campaign. Mr. Lozoya Austin served as the Chairman of the World Economic Forum and the IDB.  He is a board member on many Mexican companies and holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico and obtained a Bachelors degree in Law from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Moreover, he holds a Masters degree in International Development and Public Administration from the Harvard University.

Ambassador Jorge Eduardo Navarrete López is the presidential campaign advisor for international affairs to Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and if AMLO becomes the President, Navarrete López, will become the Foreign Secretary.  He has been an Ambassador to many nations, among them England, Venezuela, Germany, the UN, Chile, Brazil as well as other countries.  Navarrete López received his B.A. in economics from UNAM, and served on their alumni board.
