1. CNTE leaders in Michoacán, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Guerrero stated they will not return to classes next Monday-August 22nd- for the beginning of the school year given that the government has yet to respond to their demands to derogate the educational reform.

 2. A son of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman-Jesús Alfredo Guzman- the imprisoned                      Mexican drug cartel leader, was among six men kidnapped on Monday when gunmen            burst into a restaurant in the coastal resort of Puerto Vallarta.

3. For the first time in its history since 1955, The Mexican Episcopal Conference,  called         on  Catholics to take the streets on September 10th and 24th in the main cities of                   the  country (except for Mexico City) to protest against Enrique Peña Nieto’s  initiative         on same-sex marriage.

4. The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), began the process against three                          governors- from Veracruz, Chihuahua & Quintana Roo-and a former state president             requesting their  withdrawal from the party for alleged corruption.
