Justin Trudeau’s friendly jog with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto over the bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau signalled a new relationship between the two countries.
Peña Nieto had cancelled a trip to Canada last April after former Prime Minister Stephen Harper refused to lift the visa requirement. Last week’s North American Leaders’ Summit, which followed the bilateral Canada-Mexico meeting, likely could not have taken place if Trudeau had not lived up to has campaign promise to lift the visa requirement. But this re-launch in the Canada-Mexico relationship is not without challenges.
