Marco Rubio’s Cold War Mentality Toward Cuba Holds Nominee For U.S. Ambassador To Mexico Hostage

Roberta_S_JacobsonWhile blocking presidential nominations is not new, the case of Roberta Jacobson, currently serving as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere, is becoming a classic in Washington’s politics of bipartisan bickering.

An expert on Mexico, fluent in Spanish and a key negotiator in the re-establishment of diplomatic ties with Cuba, Jacobson was nominated by President Barack Obama to become Ambassador to Mexico in June 2015.

“In choosing Ms. Jacobson, 53, a Mexico specialist who rose through the ranks of the State Department… Mr. Obama turned to a trusted official with allies in both political parties whose résumé seems tailor-made for the post,” wrote The New York Times.
