Mexico Begins Cleanup After Storms

Mexico carried out rescue and cleanup efforts Tuesday in the wake of two cyclones that hit both coasts over the weekend, causing widespread flooding and landslides and killing several dozen people.

Tropical storm Manuel brought torrential rain to Pacific coast states, while on the Gulf coast, Hurricane Ingrid made landfall Monday before dissipating as it moved inland.

The Interior Ministry’s emergency-services department said that 35 people had been confirmed killed as of late Monday, including 15 people in southern Guerrero state on the Pacific coast, 12 in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, and others in Michoacan, Puebla, Hidalgo and Oaxaca.
