It has been a busy few days for Foreign Minister José Antonio Meade. Monday is the first annual meeting of the ambassadors and consuls of the Mexican administration where President Peña Nieto will dictate to the group his foreign policy strategy. His strategy is expected to be dramatically different with respect to the presidency of Felipe Calderon and the past 12 years of PAN government. It is rumored that the current ambassador to the UK, Eduardo Medina Mora, will leave that post to become the Mexican Ambassador to the US.

“Videgaray weaves reforms”
Luis Videgaray continues to build political agreements even after assuming control of the Ministry of Finance. He met with PRD Senator Dolores Padierna, Member of the Permanent Commission of Congress and one of the detractors of political negotiation that began with PRD leader Jesus Zambrano, about structural reforms. In January a new US Homeland Security provision came into effect prohibiting US Border Patrol agents from assisting US police when they detain individuals who do not speak English. The fact is that there were many complaints about the type of questions there were being asked, but now who will help translate for people without documents?

After the Ministry of the Interior took control of federal forces after the dissolution of the Ministry of Public Security, Miguel Angel Osorio Chong and President Peña Nieto met. The change in the ministries is a major new move in the strategy to combat insecurity. Taking advantage of the year-end holiday period, the Mexico City gruyeros are “making a killing” towing cars outside of the legal time limits on the pretext that they are parked in prohibited places.
