AL DÍA: ¿Qué opinan? Firmas del día: 10/25/12

Each morning, we will bring you an assortment of op-ed pieces from major Mexican dailies.

La Jornada

Clase Política, Miguel Ángel Rivera,”Otro conflict magisterial”: The conflict remains around the Secretary of Public Education and the SNTE. A few days ago the reelected Elba Esther Gordillo rose against the Mexicans First organization by hinting that it incurs mismanagement. Yesterday, the Mexicans First president, Claudio Gonzalez responded to Gordillo’s remarks with criticisms against the teachers and noted that the President-elect Peña Nieto has pledged to make changes in education.

Jorge Fernández Menéndez, “Y esta vez Cordero tenía razón”: Old politicians use to say that one of the requirements to be a good ruler is the ability to deceive with the truth. Perhaps that is what happened with the vote on the labor reform, but the truth is that many of the deputies did not believe that the reform would pass in the Senate with all the additions and modifications. They thought that the PRI, after removing the original reform without all the contentious political issues added in San Lázaro, would not be willing to play different cards in the Senate. But it did.

Trascendió: It was the PRD governors themselves, who signed up to attend the inauguration of Enrique Peña Nieto, their reason: they do not want to be left out of important decisions again; The twenty-nine deputies of the PVEM, that Arturo Escobar coordinates, voted in favor of the labor reform bill that the Senate returned to San Lázaro; The Value Investing Forum organized by Alejandro Legorreta was a success, some of the keynote speakers were former Colombian president Álvaro Uribe, Miguel Ángel Mancera and Manuel Median Mora.

Templo Mayor: They want to send General Roberto Miranda, the man responsible for the safety of Enrique Peña Nieto, packing. There are rumors amongst his fellow military colleagues that he is not fit for the position of Presidential Chief of Staff for the next government; It seems as though Marcelo Ebrard has forgotten everything he learned when he studied International Relations because it seems as though he is about to start a war between Azerbaijan and Chapultepec for allowing the statue of dictator Heydar Aliyev on Paseo de la Reforma; Apparently movement #YoSoy132, must be renamed to #YoSoy131 because one of its most popular members will debut in a new segment on one of Televisa’s network.

El Universal

Bajo reserva,”El general Ochoa en San Lázaro”:  The Secretary of National Defense, Guillermo Galván Galván, sent General Agusto Moisés García Ochoa to San Lázaro to be present in the installation of the legislative commission in charge of military issues; The six candidates that are up for the two availabilities on the Supreme Court are in the final phase of the selection process, which is a meeting with PAN senators that Ernesto Cordero leads.
