Enrique Peña Nieto, presidential candidate for the PRI-PVEM coalition, said that the strategy led by the federal government against organized crime was inevitable and mandatory, yet was not effective. He made this declaration during his participation at the Foro Seguridad y Justicia organized by Fundación Colosio.
“The balance is not satisfactory and so it leads us to rethink the situation in order to bring Mexicans the security levels that they demand,” declared Peña Nieto.
Pena Nieto proposed the creation of a national gendarmerie integrated by military officers under a civil mandate, in order to help state and local police when needed. He also stressed the need to strengthen the justice system and give it the required autonomy.
