Study Finds that Narcotics Traffickers Prefer AK-47 (In Spanish)

A new study released yesterday in the United States finds that, AK-47 rifles, known as the “cuernos de chivo” or goat’s horn in Mexico, and clones of the Bushmaster AR-15, were the most popular American firearms confiscated by Mexican authorities in the past three years.

The study, sponsored by the Mexico Institute of the Woodrow Wilson Center was based on interviews with ATF agents conducted in August of 2010, reveals organized criminals preference for these high powered military style weapons.

“The most common types of firearms recovered in Mexico which have been purchased in the United States in the last three years have been: semi-automatic rifles such as the AK-47 (7.62 x 39mm caliber) and semi-automatic clones of the AR-15 (.223in Caliber),” states the report.
