Mexico security analyst Alejandro Hope lays out his top 10 suggestions for the first year of incoming President Enrique Peña Nieto, who takes office on December 1. Hope specifically recommends: prioritizing a subsection of violent crimes, focusing on the groups that generate the most fear, establishing “safe zones” in select municipalities, cleaning up high-risk prisons, establishing safe highway corridors, picking two or three urban areas for large-scale interventions, implementing a more focused crackdown on kidnapping, beginning undercover anti-extortion operations, cracking down on vehicle theft, and creating a “prize” for state governments.”Read More…
