Peña Nieto won with 38.1% of the votes, against 31.6% for López Obrador. Josefina Vázquez Mota, the candidate of the National Action Party (PAN) only obtained 26% of the vote, bringing to an end her party’s control of the presidency for the past 12 years.What emerges from this election is a country sharply divided by educational level, geography, type of locality, and ideology.
