Countries around the world are concerned about the increasingly global reach of Mexican drug cartels, the head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said Tuesday.
The United States is particularly worried about the spread of Los Zetas, a vicious Mexican gang blamed for the killing of a U.S. immigration agent in February and the massacre of 72 migrants in northern Mexico last year, DEA administrator Michelle Leonhart said at the opening of the annual International Conference for Drug Control.
The more than 100 countries participating in the conference face many of the same challenges as the cartels grow in capacity and sophistication, Leonhart said.
