Op-Ed: Felipe Calderón and his achievements (in Spanish)

calderon2Yesterday began the third year of Felipe Calderón Hinojosa’s presidency, the second Mexican President coming out of the PAN and first to spearhead (in his first 50 days, no less) a full-out war against organized crime. That decision has put the country in a state of alert; all the police bodies in the country, the Mexican army and criminals have engaged in open combat, converting much of the country into a virtual battlefield.

It is an unfortunate situation, but an inevitable one given the aggressiveness of these individuals living outside the law, who the government has been fighting and weakening throughout the country. Proof of that are the results, although precarious, that were obtained in the first hundred days of the National Agreement for Security, Justice and Legality. The results are distinctly different from what had been achieved in past initiatives.
